California has a paid family leave insurance program that provides up to six weeks of wage replacement benefits to eligible employees who take time off from work to care for a newborn, a newly adopted child or foster child, or a seriously ill family member. Workers are eligible for the program if they contribute to the State Disability Insurance (SDI) fund. The program is separate from California’s family and medical leave law.
